The inspirations for these images came from my experience with my father on the water when I was nine or ten - like going out twelve miles to the Chlorea Banks in a 15-foot John Dory with an 18-horsepower motor. Once, when we were combing eels, a plank came out of the bottom of the boat and started to sink. Luckily we beached the boat, knocked the plank back in and returned... I was a beginner back in the late 70's, catching eel, combing, potting, jacking on the water every day, seeing all there
was to see. The others guys had much more experience than I and caught a lot more but I was happy just to be out there and learning. Regardless of the weather, I was out all the time. I learned something new everyday. It's kind of the same thing with the camera, except it's images that you're capturing.

I'm interested in falcons because of their hunting ability, speed and heritage. I remember seeing a documentary years ago stating that they were highly underrated birds. The first time I saw a falcon was at the Westend Beach #2 at Jones Beach. Fantastic surf, birds everywhere. Other people on the beach told me how lucky I was to have a camera to capture these moments. I noticed these special birds
stood out from everything else I've ever seen. I did not know what they were at that time but I knew they were special. I crawled on my stomach to get close enough to shoot. The first day was the best I could have asked for.

You have to be dedicated and love what you do to be out in the winter. I started filming on a Great
South Bay duck boat but got caught in some rough water going out. It was so cold that day the vapor started rising off the water. My boat and I iced up and water started coming into the boat. I got really worried. Luckily, I got close to shore and into calmer water. After that, I purchased a 17' Canadian duck boat with a blind. Also a 21' boat for rougher water.
